Thanks to its location, Cam Thanh Coconut Forest is a private mangrove waterways, making it great location for developing guerrilla warfare. In the war time with French colonials and American, Hoi An committee had chosen this place as a revolutionary base to fight against the enemy with many resounding victories.

Nowadays,  Cam Thanh Coconut Village is getting more famous as an extra, eco-tourism option along lantern villages, silk goods, timber furniture and pottery of the quaint town Hoi An.

Visitors can pedal along 5km of winding flat roads around the tranquil village, and get away from the major tourism hub of Hoi An. Under the shades of nipa palms, visitors can explore the wetland ecological system in coracles, the ever traditional means of moving around or natives, crafted of woven bamboo. Joining some hand-on activities such as farming or fishing will make such an interesting day for visitors.

The best way to explore the palm forest is to ride basket boat. The Basket Boat is known locally as “Thung Chai” and is very popular among the local fishermen in the central regions of Viet Nam. The local fishermen really like to use it because it is very mobile and convenient, as it can easily transport people from their big boats to the land. Furthermore, the fishermen use it to catch fish with the fishing net and to carry oil, wood, food and other things they might need while fishing. The shape of the Basket Boat is to be re-tarred every 6 months, depending on how one much care one puts in using it. The safe capacity is normally 5 people per Boat (4 guests + 1 rider).

It will certainly be a lot of fun, with loads of spinning around as the boat will madly go round and round and round.

Besides, you will be recieved handcrafted gift made of coconut leaves from the basket boat riders such as: ring, watches, glasses ect. You can also make some DIY items under their guidance.
