The cheapest way to get from Hanoi Airport to Old Quarter

After landing Hanoi Airport (Noi Bai International Airport), the most important concern is how to get to Hanoi Center and reach your hotels which are mostly in Hanoi Old Quarter. It is about 30km from the airport to the Old Quarter and there are many options for you.

In this post, we will show you the cheapest way to get from Hanoi Airport to Old Quarter and some other means of transportation available.

1. Bus

Unlike other cities in the world, in which train dominate overs other means of transportation, in Hanoi, bus is the cheapest way and yet convenient way (just after motobikes) to get around the city. However, from Hanoi Aiport to Old Quarter,  there are some bus options with different services.

  • Shuttle bus from Airlines: Vietnam Airline, Jet Star or Vietjet offers this kind of service to get you from Hanoi Airport to Hanoi Center.  As soon as you exit the airport, you can easily find them at T1 station. The cost for each person is 40,000 VND( ~2$) and it drops you in Hanoi Old Quarter but not at your hotels. Vietnam Airline’s will drop you at No1, Quang Trung, Hoan Kiem Hanoi and.
  • Public bus: This is the cheapest way to get to Hanoi center as it costs just 9000 VND (~0.5 $). But there is a high quality option and the only public bus to get you to Hanoi Old Quarter, which is the no 86. Having been operating since 2016, this mean of transportation will be happened to be your comfortable, enjoyable and convenient vehicle and the bus stops at many locations in Hanoi Old Quarter including Long Bien bus station, Hoan Kiem Lake etc. It costs you 30,000 VND with the detail route: T2 Station (first floor) -T1  – Võ Nguyên Giáp –  Nhật Tân Bridge – Âu Cơ – Nghi Tàm – Yen Phu – Long Biên – Trần Nhật Duật – Trần Quang Khải – Tràng Tiền – Lê Thánh Tông – Hai Bà Trưng – Ngô Quyền – Lý Thường Kiệt – Lê Duẩn – Ga Hà Nội.

  • Noi Bai Airport’s Bus: There are 3 routes, but if you want to get to the old quarter, then choose the NB02 with the routes: Noi Bai Airport (T2 Station) – T1 Station – Võ Văn Kiệt – Võ Nguyên Giáp – Street 5 – Đông Trù Bridge – Nguyen Văn Cừ – Chương Dương Bridge– Trần Quang Khải ( Near Hanoi Old Quarter) – Trần Khánh Dư – Nguyễn Khoái – Minh Khai –  Times City. It also cost 40,000 VND(~2 USD)

2. Taxi

If you are not budget travelers and just want to enjoy your trip, then taxi is also a good choice. Like buses, there are many taxi providers around Noi Bai Airport for you to choose.

To avoid scams, you can get Grab taxi (Uber has been emerged with Grab since April 2018)  in Noi Bai Airport which is also the cheapest taxi option and it will offer a wide variety of cars and services including low cost and premium ones. The estimated cost is about 265.000 VND (12$) for the cheapest car if you stay in Hanoi Old Quarter.

Otherwise, you can still enjoy your ride with common taxi providers such as Mai Linh Taxi (the green one), taxi group (the white one). But if you pick some else, then ask for the price before getting in.The quite high at approximately 300 VND(14$) and you can simply pick one.

3. Tour services

The most safest way when you travel to Vietnam, especially when  you don’t know the language is to pre-book a tour operator or travel company. They will offer you this pick-up airport service with a tour guide welcome you at the airport and a private car. They will also transfer you directly to the hotel and take care of all the meals planned in the itinerary. Furthermore, you do not have to worry about the unfortunate scam on the way.
