Halong Bay Weather in August

August is the last month of summer, however it is among the hottest months in the year in Ha Long Bay with an average temperature of 29°C.  During the summer month you may see temperatures high of up to 32°C, which is the highest in the year, or lows of 25°C which is still hot.

August also has the highest average monthly rainfall of the year with 1200mm falling over an average of 16 days. During the month, you will get an average of 6 hours of sunshine a day which is the lowest in the year. Because of the high rainfall and low amount of sunshine hours, be sure to check the weather forecast before planning days out if you are visiting this popular holiday destination in August.

The average sea temperature in August is a very warm 26°C, you can swim for hours without feeling uncomfortable.

However, there may be infrequent typhoons (normally from the early to the middle of month), which may render cancellation or delay of your trip. But luckily, storms and typhoons are small, and they last in a very short time and thus considered to be harmless.

In  case of a big storm, be sure to contact your agent for alternative solutions, such as staying a night or two in a hotel on the mainland and continuing the cruise the next day under sunshine; or alternatively, visiting another destination in the North of Vietnam and come  back to Halong Bay later. These storms will not last longer than 2-3 days.

With temperatures at their hottest, this is perfect opportunity to enjoy days out kayaking and canoeing, swimming discovering the island and exploring the floating villages.
